TAZZOLI BUILDING TWO FOR ICE HOCKEY - TURIN

Year 2005
Client: City of Turin
SPORTS HALL
Structural Design and Construction Supervision

Built on the occasion of the 2006 Winter Olympics, held in Turin and in the ski resorts of the province, it is of an underground volume whose roof at street level becomes a public urban floor: an upward fold in the cover guarantees natural light inside the building.
The supporting structure is made up of 11 steel beams and prestressed slabs made of reinforced concrete that create a coffered texture inclined to the perimeter and parallel to the fold.
The construction involved the use of provisional intermediate pillars to support the steel beams; once the assembly of the prestressed slabs and the casting that made the steel beams and prestressed slabs in reinforced concrete collaborate were completed, a system of 22 jacks, 2 per pillar, was used to unload the provisional pillars to create the project configuration.
