PIAGGIO AERO INDUSTRIES NEW PRODUCTION CENTER – VILLANOVA D’ALBENGA (SV)

Years 2009-2012
Client: PIAGGIO AERO INDUSTRIES SPACE
INDUSTRIAL PLANT
Integral Design and Construction Supervision

In a territorial transformation plan promoted by the Liguria Region, Piaggio Aero Industries, the aeronautical company producing the famous P180, decided to concentrate the production activity carried out up to that moment, 2007, in the Genoa and Finale Ligure plants in an area of approximately 140,000 square meters inside the Panero airport in Villanova d'Albenga.
The area with a natural difference in height of about 4 meters on the 450 meters of depth was the subject of a general excavation intervention on the entire surface: a third of the volume of land was arranged to form a green hill towards the airport, while two thirds were used to form a filler layer for laying the flooring; the gradient of the entire plant was limited to 3%.
Maintaining the existing environmental characteristics appropriate to the new industrial function has avoided using external natural resources, reducing the costs of the intervention.
The coverage of the production area of 45,000 square meters, made of steel with a mesh of pillars of 28x14 meters, constitutes a space equipped for mechanical, electrical, lighting and also for the handling of the workpieces: doing so the entire surface is free from obstacles for any processing on the P180 which assembled has a wingspan and a length of about 14 meters.
